Signature Lecture:Where are the Italian American Writers? Where are the Italian American Novelists?

Is there an Italian American literary tradition? Italian Americans have contributed much to 20th century American cultural life: art, music, opera, dance, theater, and film but in literature they have not been as prominent. Perhaps the absence of models in literature for the first Italian Americans was the cause. Or perhaps the “power of literature to create identity and community” has taken longer for Italian Americans to realize as the current slew of Italian American writers attest. Presented in English by Professor in Residence Antonio Rutigliano
