About the event
Ciao, Professore!, a 1992 Italian classic social comedy about the broad socio-economic and cultural differences that continue to exist even today between the North and the South of the peninsula. It deals with the misadventures and education of an elementary school teacher from northern Italy mistakenly assigned to teach in an impoverished town in the Naples region of Campania. There he must deal with vast cultural disparities while working with chronically truant children from poverty-stricken families who only respect violence and power. The film was directed by the inimitable Lina Wertmüller, and stars the lovable Paolo Villaggio. Ciao, professore! is guaranteed to open your eyes - and ears! - as well as your heart.
Prof. Joseph Spedaliere will introduce the film and then briefly address the film’s themes and setting, its director and actors, and some of the production’s outstanding and interesting attributes. At the conclusion of the film, the audience will be invited to share its observations and opinions in an informal study of the film’s qualities.
