About the event
From mass media to museum exhibitions, Italian fashion quickly became one of Italy's most important exports. Made in Italy fashion benefited from the international success of brands like Giorgio Armani, Versace, Missoni, and many more. More than any other market, Americans had a love affair with the Made in Italy label, which came to signify not only superior design and quality, but glamor, luxury, and prestige. We will close with a reflection on the legacy of Made in Italy and Italian fashion today.
About the Author:
Marcella Martin holds a doctorate in Italian Studies from New York University. Prior to that she was a Lecturer at Jefferson University (Philadelphia, PA), where she also served as Curator of the Costume and Textile Collection. In 2023, she curated the exhibition Made in Italy | Sold in America: Fashion in Attenzione Magazine, 1979-1987 at the Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimo at New York University.
